We are working to change that.<\/h2>\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-977ba2f no-bot-margin elementor-widget elementor-widget-text-editor\" data-id=\"977ba2f\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"text-editor.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<p>In the US alone, <strong>23 million people<\/strong> live with autoimmune disease, and as many as <strong>1 in 10 people<\/strong> live with autoimmune disease in the industrial world.<sup>1-3<\/sup> Autoimmune diseases occur when the immune system attacks the body\u2019s own tissues due to molecular mimicry, a process in which self-antigens are misidentified as foreign.
